Establishing Genre
Setting: There will be an establishing shot of a town at night. This will help establish the film as a horror film as stereotypically horror films take place in the dark, as this is why some people are scared off. The people in the city are very unsocial and due to the events that happen during a full moon. This will be shown by no movement inside or outside the houses.
Character: There will be tracking shots of a moving van driving through the empty city but the characters face will not be shown until getting out of the car to create enigmas.
Props: close up of for sale sign outside the house to make it clear that the people in the van are moving into this house.
Era: The fact that the first shot is of a modern day city with a modern day moving van driving into it allows the audience to understand that this film is set in the present.
Sound

Planning Genres
Horror
This is an example of the kind of horror film I would like to make if I chose this genre for my film opening. I like the idea of things jumping out to make the audience jump, and would like to experiment with this in my opening. I can also see how the lighting is dull throughout the trailer which relates to the genre of horror. I would use this same lighting if i were to choose the genre of horror for my opening.
Thriller
I noticed in this trailer the editing is very quick and the lighting is very dull and there is a lot of shadow. If I were to make a thriller opening I would use all of this in my opening in order to create suspense.
Action
After watching a few action film openings and trailers, I do not think an action film opening would be my first choice. This is because I realised in most of them, the cutting is very quick and a lot of action is already happening just in the opening 2 minutes. I think this would be difficult to do at a good quality.

Story Idea 1
Goal: My leads story goal is to get rid of evil spirit in house.
Crisis: Suppose evil spirit terrorises a family.
Story: The family must try to survive and find a way to rid the evil spirit from their house.
My lead character would be the farther of the family. He will be middle aged, tall, with dark hair. He will very protective of the rest of the family and very serious. He will be middle class and work in the city in an office. his name will be John Coleman.
oppositional character: The evil spirit
Confidant: the mother of the family
Story Idea 2
Crisis: Suppose a family move into a town, where, unbeknownst to them, there is a person that murders a supposedly innocent person every full moon.
Goal: The lead's story goal is to solve who the murderer is, and why they only attack on full moons. Also, they attempt to keep their family out of danger by keeping them ignorant of the events.
Story: a person who is attempts to uncover the mystery of the murders that happen in their town that they have moved to, as well as trying to keep their family from being scared. He/She will do this by following links between the murders, whether they're connected, and what they have to do with the full moon.
The main character will be Elizabeth Mcgee, a mother who works in a well paid job as a successful journalist and provides money for her husband and teenage son. She looks young for her age of thirty, and is quite sarcastic in her mannerisms. She has had quite a protected life, for her parents are quite wealthy, so she hasn't come in to contact with anything threatening until now. Other than her lack of experience in the unordinary, she is quite a strong willed character, and doesn't appear to be fazed by anything strange or creepy.
oppositional: murderer that only attacks on the full moon.
confidant: will be Mcgee's 16 year old son.
Audience Feedback
- Daughter instead of son
- Daughter should have a risk of being killed
- Explain how the family find out about the deaths, for example their neighbour who has lived in that area for a long time explains the story.
- Pattern to the deaths
Story Idea 3
Crisis - Mother and Father realise their daughter is possessed by a demon upon visiting a haunted house in a forest. Daughter is affecting their lives by haunting them and trying to kill them and her brother.
Story Goal - The goal is to stop her and perform an exorcism with the aid of a priest. Ultimately to save her life and theirs, or alternatively just theirs if need be.
The parents will go to a priest upon releasing that their daughter is possessed and attempt to perform an exorcism. When this fails they are unaware of how to help their child. They then travel back to a house near where they live that they believe is the cause of the possession. The mother will be taken by the daughter and it will be left to find her and save their daughter from the demon. The daughter will try to prevent him from doing so.
The lead character will be the father of the family and will be roughly 35 years old. He will be dark haired and tall and will be of middle class. He will be fairly successful and will be happy in life until the daughter is possessed. His name will be Mark Johnson.
Oppositional: Daughter/Demon
Confident: Mother

Evaluation
The titles fade softly in and out which relates to the slow piano introduction of the song. The title of the film is shown a lot bigger and bolder than the other titles, as in the very centre of the screen. White font colour is used to contrast against the dark and dull background so that they can be clearly read. The names of the people who have made the film are bigger and bolder than their role. The titles do not stay in one place on the screen, they appear in different places depending on what is being shown in the background. The footage shown in the background makes the title sequence a lot less boring and also gives some clues about the content of the film, which will cause enigmas.
